Where to Start

I spent a good portion of yesterday thinking about my stash reorganization. I pretty much want it to be in a permanent location. As of now, it is everywhere but that is because of the remodeling of our family room and my purchases and pulling out of boxes (yes, I still have boxes packed). During that time, I put most of the stuff in part of our dining room closet (we have a big closet there) and the rest was put in the attic or in another closet. Hmmm...I haven't looked in the other closet yet. I wonder what is in there. LOL So at the end of the day, I still haven't decided where to start or where to put it all. I am thinking one of my upstairs hall closets (I have two or I may do something with the family room closet. The only problem with the family room closets is one is for toys and kid stuff and the other which would be perfect has the door leading to the crawl space under the house. Because of that, stash would have to be moved to access the door. That really isn't a big problem as I have one of those plastic filing cabinets with three big bins on wheels and could put that in front of the door and just wheel it out. Oh the decisions I need to make. What the heck was I thinking when I decided to get some organization with my stash? Anyway, that is down the road. The first thing I need to do is start going through stuff.

Thanks for the comments and encouragement yesterday as I start this reorganization. I think the motivation is I am seeing more and more stitchers organizing their stash and I want to be able to find stuff quickly too. I guess I am jumping on the bandwagon so to speak. But it makes sense especially with CATS around the corner.

Terri, I have to agree with you that Jan is the sweetest person I have ever met. She loves everything stitching and really loves her shop. It shows in how the shop is set up and in her staff. You should see the stitching room she has. She was having a Saturday Stitch-In and the room the stitchers were in looked like a living room. So warm, inviting and cozy. Like I said, I would have spent more but I really did get overwhelmed. I wish the shop wasn't two hours away. I know I would be there all the time. I can't wait to see her and her staff at CATS in September. I am sure she will remember us. We were the only customers in bathing suits and t-shirts. LOL

I do have an LNS about 30 minutes from here. I don't go there often because I never get a warm feeling when I walk in the door. Also my last time there about a year ago left a sour taste in my mouth when they wouldn't help me or accomodate me when I needed ONE skein of thread they didn't have. I was not happy after spending over $100.00 that day. To this day I still need that dang thread and I could have ordered it on Saturday if I thought about it. I guess I better put that on my list for CATS. Thank goodness for my blog. At least I am jotting down pieces of my list somewhere. :)

Anyway, back to the organization. For today, I have some regular household stuff to do and then in between I may start going through the magazines. That seems like a logical place to start and that box is in the family room so I can do laundry, watch t.v. and look at magazines. Sounds pretty good to me!!

Have a great day everyone!!

Congratulations on your motivation to organize your stash. It seems overwhelming, but just break it down into small pieces. Since your charts seem to be the pressing issue with CATS looming, do those first. I keep a list of mine in an Excel spreadsheet, for easy searching. I can search by designer or by chart name. Good luck - let us know how it goes!

I find the easiest way for me to truly get organized it to pack it all up first! I use copy paper boxes from work since they have lids and I can stack them when they're full. Everything that's not already where it should be goes into a box. The I start with one box, and empty it making sure I put everything in that box where it belongs before I start on the next one.

The only thing I don't like about doing this is that means you touch everything and I want to stitch so many new things while I'm doing this! LOL

two piles - keep and toss. Start flinging!

I can't wait to see how THE reorganization goes - perhaps I can live vicariously through you!

Thanks for your words of encouragement on my blog regarding reorganizing, Mia! It's such a huge job - I really should do the whole house. My kitchen is in pretty good shape tho, since we totally remodeled it a few years ago. I got rid of loads of stuff and it felt great!
