Organizing Stash
I really need to reorganize my stash. It has sort of gotten out of hand in the past year. Why? Well I guess between shopping and not really having a place for it, made it go everywhere. Now that we are back in the family room, it is time for me to rethink my organization that I have had for the past two years.
The reason for this you may ask? Well over the weekend we took a trip to Camelbeach in the Poconos. My sister in law and I went to a great needlework shop Mimi's Attic and spent some time oohing and ahhing over everything. She has a website and the shop and staff are absolutely wonderful. I saw a great Hinzeit Coffee sampler there and had it in my hands. The more I looked, the more I thought I had that already. So I put it back. I did manage to buy a chart, some threads and fabric so the trip wasn't a total loss. I actually would have bought more but I was overwhelmed by how stocked the shop was.
Yesterday I decided to look for the chart I thought I had. Well after about 1/2 hour, I did find it. I was about to put it on my list for CATS when it turned up. Where? In my drawer with my fabric, in the middle of the drawer where it could have gone unnoticed for years. Sigh...
Now CATS is a month away and I have no idea what I have in the way of stash. The fabric part is not a problem. I can always use fabric but the charts?!?!? I really don't want doubles especially if it isn't something I can pass onto my sister in law or niece. So between now and CATS I plan on getting my stuff organized. Besides charts in the fabric bin, I found finished works in my thread drawer, tote bag, floss container. You name it!!
So some time between now and CATS, I plan on getting my stuff organized again. I have my mother's cedar chest to put my finished projects waiting for frames. Do you think I used it yet? Not a chance. I even plan on putting my fabric in there. Then that will free up a bin for more stuff. LOL I also have to take a closer look at my charts to see what exactly I have. I have 13 years of charts and some are still in print.
I also need to go through my magazines and weed them out. A 3-ring binder and hole punch and plastic page protectors should take care of that.
I think going through my stash will be worse than spring cleaning. But in the end I should know exactly what I have and it will have a home somewhere in this house. :)
If you don't hear from me, I may have been swallowed up by the stash monster that I am about to unleash. :)

Isn't Jan the greatest! She is one of the worst enablers I've ever had the pleasure of meeting! I think I spent more at her booth than anywhere else totaled together! LOL
There must be something in the air. Not only am I reorganizing my stash room, but everywhere I read other stitchers are doing the same.
Wow, Mia! Excellent restraint shown while at Mimi's Attic. :D
Can't wait to hear more of your Adventures in Stash Organization. I'll be working on my own version in the next few weeks with homeschool stuff and personal library thrown in.
My filing cabinet just came in so it's time to take a good hard look at my charts and other papery stitching bits that can go in there. I've got to get a handle on the craft room. (At least all my stuff is in one room, right?)
I've been drowning in stash for years. If you buy dupicates (by mistake), someone on eBay is bound to want it. I seriously need to go through many crates of leaflets.
Girl, come organize me when you get done!
