Back to School
I tried to write a post yesterday afternoon but blogger was being a bugger with me and I lost the post. Sigh...so I just gave up for the day.
The kids went back to school yesterday and to say I was nervous was an understatement. We had so many unknowns going into yesterday. First, both kids were getting new teachers. I checked the website for over a week looking for at least an introduction from these teachers. I got nothing. Then there is this whole "I am the mother of an 8th grader" thing. I don't know why it bothers me so much. I look at my age as a number and I am young. But looking at my DS tells me otherwise. This year is going to be a year of change and transition. No more comfort zone of grade school. I am already getting recruitment letters from various high schools in my area. Then there is DS's grades. They are not the best. They are just barely average. He needs help and I can't do it alone. So I left them at school and was a wreck til 12:30 when I got to see them. Well I worried for nothing. Both of their new teachers are great.
My DD's teacher is very young and DD LOVES her already. This teacher is a lot like Mr. F, my DD's second grade teacher. And so she should be. She is a friend of Mr. F and now Mr. F is also teaching 4th grade and I know they will be teaching the same way with the challenges my DD loves. So I am happy for her.
DS came out of school and was so animated about his new teachers (one homeroom and one ILA-integrated language arts). I also got the best news that nearly made me cry. He will be taught math by the honors math teacher who is the best in her field. We are so lucky to have her at our school. He is not an honors math student but his math teacher from last year saw the need to have something done and over the summer it was decided that my DS and 5 other students will be with Mrs. G and they will learn the same exact work but on their level. Thank goodness because when I checked his math packet it took me over an hour. I forgot half the stuff from when I learned it and was nearly in tears trying to check his work and get the correct answers. It all worked out in the end but it put my concerns right in the front of my mind. He is looking forward to this year which is a big one for him. He told me last night as I tucked him in that he was looking forward to today. I have never heard those words out of his mouth about school. :)
This morning they were up bright and early and ready to start their day. I am happy for both of them and I hope that they are this excited months from now when we are in the thick of things. :)
Yesterday because of my nerves, I did nothing. I could not concentrate on even laundry. So today I am doing my normal household stuff and will continue after I get them from school at lunchtime. Tomorrow and the weekend will be the same. Next week I must start tackling their rooms because they are a mess and I want to get ready for the colder months ahead. I also figure stitching will be a good portion of my afternoon. :) I am almost finished with "12 Days" and would love to show you a picture. That could happen either today or tomorrow if I get my way.
Have a great day everyone!! I need to get some laundry hung out!!

We want to see 12 Days too!
I am so glad to hear things are going well for the beginning of school for your kids! That's wonderful news about DS' math class and your daughter's teacher!
Oh, Mia, I feel your mama's heart of concern for your kidlets! How wonderful that your son will have the best of math instruction possible. Keep the faith and all will be fine. The road isn't easy, but it's worth everything. :)
