First Day Whirlwind..A Day Late
Yesterday was a whirlwind around here. My house was neat as a pin on Tuesday (really, it was!) and this morning it looks like a bomb went off. Wherever you look, there is stuff. Most of it school stuff. There is contact paper, book sox, tissue boxes, paper towels, and a bunch of paperwork (two kids brought home a tree yesterday) that I need to weed through. Little by little this morning I am working my way through it in preparation for the next wave. But there is a bright side. My kids had a great first day yesterday.
DD is always a chatterbox and has been counting down the days til school started. She couldn't wait and I am so glad 3rd grade is going to be everything she dreamed it would be. She loves her teacher and loves the kids in her class. She is so looking forward to learning new things. The minute she saw me yesterday, she was non-stop chatter while we were waiting for DS.
While waiting for DS, the butterflies in my stomach were reproducing rapidly. Last year, DS barely talked about school other than he liked his teacher and made new friends. So we waited. About 10 minutes later and many more butterflies later, he came out and saw us. Before he even reached us, he was chattering away. He LOVES 7th grade and is so looking forward to the year. I can't believe it. At that moment, I was so happy that I think I shined like the sun. The rest of the day was pretty much the same and both kids were very animated and happy about the upcoming school year.
DS already has homework. He has to write a letter about himself to his ILA teacher, Mrs. Z. She wrote to them and this morning, I read the letter. I didn't have a chance last night....remember the tree that came home? Well guess what? In her letter, she mentioned her hobbies and the second one she listed is STITCHING!!! Oh I am so going to tell DS to mention that his mom stitches too. I sure hope it is cross stitch. I really have to remember to tell DS to mention that I cross stitch. It would be so great to meet a fellow stitcher that doesn't live far away. The best thing is DS will have this teacher for 2 years. She is the 7th grade ILA teacher and an 8th grade homeroom teacher.
So yesterday went much better than I ever could have imagined.
I figured on a leisurely afternoon with the kids. It didn't happen. After school, we ran to the grocery store and came home and had lunch. I finished up a few chores and then started dinner. Then from 4-5 I filled out the mountain of paperwork. Then from 7-10 I stood in the kitchen and clear contact papered a dozen workbooks. Oh how I hope they don't bring that many home today. I already went through 2 rolls of that sticky paper.
This morning I ran a couple of errands kid free. Oh how I enjoyed that. Then I came home and put chicken and red peppers, onions, mushrooms and cream of mushroom soup in the crock pot. I just need to remember to turn it on in a 1/2 hour. All I have to do then is make rice and we have dinner. Thank goodness, I thought about the crock pot last night. Last nigth, I made dinner and with all the preparation and cleanup, I lost valuable time that I could have been filling in forms and covering books. I could have had a 1/2 hour or so to stitch but I didn't. Hopefully tonight will be easier on us.
So right now, I am sitting in the quiet of the house and need to get moving on a couple of chores before I get the kids at noon. I can't wait to hear how their 2nd day of school went. I think this will be a great year for my now 3rd grader and 7th grader.
Have a great day everyone and hopefully I will be able to write a stitching post soon!!!

It really is nerve wracking, standing outside the classroom and waiting for your kid to come out. It seemed like I stood there forever today!
Cherish these days, they grow up so fast! Don't forget to document these milestones in your scrapbook.
Wowee, you are busy, woman! While I love my boys to pieces and actually had a tremendous day while they were at the preschool, I'm actually looking forward to a few days like that where I can get EVERYTHING done sans kids and enjoy them more at home.
Mia, I'm exhuasted just reading about your day.LOL
When do you find time for stitching??
Having two teenage DDs I can relate to how much goes into preparing and getting through a school day.
