New Week
Here I am two weeks and counting to my DD's First Holy Communion. Things are under control as much as they can be. This morning I ordered her cake and went back to my old haunt in South Philly. I talked to other moms and dads at school and these people just don't know cake. I don't want a supermarket cake, warehouse store cake, plain old bakery cake. I want a CAKE!!! I have always had special cakes for those special occasions like their Baptisms, DS's Communion, DH's 30th and 40th bday, etc. After checking out the few pathetic bakeries in this town I now live in, my decision was made. I am going back to my old haunt. It is a great bakery in South Philly and I ordered a tiramisu cake. YUM!! I was originally leaning toward another bakery in South Philly that I love but DH said don't get the Italian Rum, he wanted something with chocolate. So I got the tiramisu. He will be happy because as of last night, I was going to Isgros. I still need to put my final order in on the food and I need to order rolls and bread but the cake is ordered and will be waiting for me two weeks from now.
My DFIL came this morning and did some flower planting. He planted the things that are a little more hardy in case we do get another frost which I hope we don't. By Mother's Day, the rest of our stuff will be planted. But right now I am happy for what has been done. You see, the people that used to own this house, never, ever did something to make the house look like a home. I heard this from a few neighbors over the weekend. Hmmm....they didn't tell me anything I didn't know. Every darn thing in this house is original. We don't know how they survived. But little by little everything will be replaced. Right now I am so excited that my patio will be done by Wednesday. Tomorrow the mason comes and lays out the forms and then on Wednesday will be the concrete pour. I can't wait. We love sitting outside when the weather is so nice.
Speaking of the weather we will see 80 F degree temps by Wednesday. I love it and hopefully my shorts won't be tight. I need to watch my weight and have been trying but failing miserably. Hopefully will all the activity I will have in the next couple weeks, I will drop some weight that I have put on recently. I am guessing that I have gained about 5-7 pounds this long winter. Not bad but it is a struggle whether 1 pound or 10 pounds. I plan on doing some walking and keeping active now that the nice weather is here.
Last night I finally got to stitch. I finished up the brown border and white border and started on the pinks in Coffee. It is looking so nice. I am so hoping to get a lot done this week. It is a great stress reliever and last night was awesome. I almost didn't want to go to bed but knew I would be worthless today if I didn't.
I finished #26 square of the CAL. I have done squares 1-10 and decided to now stitch in columns. So I did #26 which is the first square of the first column and this morning I started #41 which is the fan and popcorn one and so far, it is looking like the picture. I plan on joining the columns together so it won't be overwhelming when it comes time to put this together. I am not the best at finishing and I already am not looking forward to joining 63 squares together. So doing it 9 at a time seems like a good plan. Breaking it up is the best. But I won't be joining til after DD's Communion (4/30) and DS's Confirmation (5/10). After the Confirmation, life should settle just a bit before school is out for the summer. That would be a good time as summer always ends up busy.
I have been straightening all morning and just started some laundry. In a little bit I will run some errands and grab something for dinner. I didn't feel like food shopping this weekend and today is no better. I hate that chore but we have to eat and someone has to do it. LOL
Have a great day everyone!!!!

It sounds like you've got a lot going on, Mia! I'm glad you're getting your stitching time in. The weather is so gorgeous, I haven't done a single stitch today, though I have crocheted lots on the blanket I'm making for my sister's baby (she's due in September). It's easier to crochet outside than it is to stitch, though the natural light might make it easier to stitch on that dark fabric. OH, I THINK MY LAMP'S HERE!
Tiramisu cake sounds wonderfully yummy! Supermarket cake for first Holy Communion?? Yucky! Really, I can't imagine it, it must be something special. I'm sure your DD's celebration will be great and a memorable moment in her life :)
I have a crocheting slump, but it's OK, I did 8 squares the very first week, so I can take it easy for some time now, I know when the crochet bug strikes again, I will finish a couple more.
Looking forward to seeing your square :)
