It's That Time of Year...

that I PANIC!!!! Gosh I have been doing so well. I normally have my yearly Christmasy nervous breakdown and then move on. I woke up this morning realizing the following:
1. The house is 75% decorated
2. I have bought just a few gifts.
3. I have bought very little for my kids
4. My baking is about 1/4 done
5. Don't even get me started with the wrapping, cards and the rest.
6. Throw into the mix the normal every day occurrences.
ACK!!! Stop the world; I wanna get off. This is one of those Calgon moments.

So what do I do.....I got the kids off to school and came home, showered and had coffee. During that cuppa I realized that I still have TIME to get it all done. I do this to myself every year. Why? You may ask. Well I like the "perfect" holiday. You know the ones you see on t.v. Well in reality, we do have a perfect holiday and it never goes unnoticed by those around me. Of course I always want more. I guess it is human nature. I blame it on the hustle and bustle. I am one of those mellow go with the flow people. Well this is the time of the year that I can't be that person. LOL I should just get over it and know it by now. But after 17 years of marriage and doing this for that long, I guess it is part of my preparation. LOL

After that cuppa, I went food shopping. During that time I made a mental list. Tonight I am going to make the rest of my cookie dough and bake all day tomorrow to finish it up. The kids are off from school tomorrow and I promised them we would bake. Now is the best time. Who knows, since I don't have to be in bed early tonight, I may just bake a batch or two.

We will also finish the decorating. There is not much left but with being in a new home, there is just not "homes" for my decorations. It will happen and whatever doesn't find a spot will find one next year after my husband does some major renovations which are in the works starting in the late winter.

I will also finish shopping. Hey, at least I started. This weekend is pretty busy as we have a party on Saturday night and since it is at my sis in law R's house, I have lots to prepare. That is Friday and Saturday up til party time. But I do have Sunday to get some shopping done. Actually it will be DH going to Best Buy for stuff for our son. He knows better than me so I will leave it in his hands. But it will all get done.

As for the cards and wrapping and the other loose ends, hey they will get done too. There I feel all better now. The only thing I need to find some time for is stitching. Sigh.....I haven't picked up a needle since before Thanksgiving. I miss it but maybe getting the baking out of the way will open up some extra time for me to stitch.

Well I best be moving along for the rest of the afternoon. This is the first time since that cuppa that I have sat down. But at least it feels good to know that I have time to get it all done before the BIG day.

Have a great one everyone!!

Hi,
that's the spirit. This weekend we celebrated sinterklaas and it's true: you have a perfect picture in your head how it should be. With my children relatively (?) small, it always is different than you expect or want. But seldom worse.
When I read your blogs (UK or USA) I'm glad we don't celebrate christmas that big. We have nice meals and gather together, but no christmas presents or cookies. We do have lots of decorations, but I think in general less than other countrys.
Good luck with your preparations!
