Snowy Morning

Last night we got about 1-3 inches of snow. It looked so pretty this morning but this is the stuff that melts pretty quick. Going to bed last night, I thought school would have a delay but they didn't. I am happy for that. I have a schedule to stick to today in order to get stuff done.

In answer to my comments, I really am not this calm. I am antsy and want it all done NOW!! Unlike Cathy (who I wish I was like at this point), I am almost finished family gifts. I have very little for both of my children. I hope to remedy that tonight when my girlfriend and I go shopping. I know I will get a lot for DD done tonight as one of our stops is Toys R Us. We are also going to the mall and I am so hoping to get DS some things. Most of DS's list can be bought at Best Buy or Circuit City. DH said he will take a day off depending on how it goes tonight.

So far, I have a little inside decorating finished. I do have our Advent Tree out (I just bought it LOL) and the kids had a blast playing catch up by hanging an ornament for the first 5 days. This morning DD couldn't wait to hang #6. They take turns. DS has the odd numbers and DD has the even!!. We also have a wall hanging Advent Calendar but I can't get to it because DH needs to get the big, huge green tubs out of the attic so I can finish. That will more than likely be tomorrow since that is when we will decorate the tree. Speaking of tree, the tree is inside in its stand and it looks beautiful. It smells wonderful!! One of my favorite scents of all time. Tonight DH will string the lights and tomorrow evening when we are all home, we will decorate it.

In the way of baking, I have finished drop sugar cookies, mocha latte crinkles and chocolate crinkles. I did the chocolate crinkles last night. I made the dough last week but we never got around to it. So last night was the night.

My plan for today is laundry and stitching while waiting for laundry to dry. I didn't stitch last night and I really would like to see 12 Days finished and hung for THIS holiday season. I know I can do it. More than likely tomorrow is the day I post pictures. Of course tonight I will be out shopping.

Tomorrow I plan on making at least 3 cookie doughs so we can bake on Thursday. My kids are off school for the Feast Day of the Immaculate Conception and other than my son serving the 8 AM and 7:30 PM Mass, we are in for the day. I figure if I have the laundry under control, the house relatively neat and the tree fully decorated, we can devote the day to baking. It will be a fun day for me and the kids.

Everyone says (including DH) that I really push the limits with baking the ton of cookies that I do. But what I am doing is creating a life long memory in both of my children. To this day, I remember my dad decorating, Christmas music constantly playing, Bing Crosby, Andy Williams, (yes I am dating myself here LOL), Charlie Brown Christmas, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, and my mom baking. My mom normally baked a ton too but always saved enough batches for me to help with. If you asked me what I got for Christmas when I was young, I can't remember it all but I will always remember how special my parents made the holidays. I am now the parent and it is now my turn to create the memories that last a lifetime. I guess that is why I believe in the season and all the magic is holds. These are the things I will always remember and these are the things I hold near and dear to my heart.

I best be getting along if I want to create new memories. I don't want my kids to remember me being too busy with housework. I want them to remember me always having the time to spend with them doing fun stuff.

Have a great day everyone!!

It's wonderful that you are creating this heirloom of memories for your children, just as your parents did! My mom also baked a ton of cookies, but she was famous for her cinnamon bread. Now I'm trying to pass all that along too, and although I don't use the exact recipe my Mom did (I grind wheat to make the flour), my bread is becoming well-known too :) The memory of the senses lasts so much longer than those toys!!

MMM, mocha latte cookies! My Mom always makes huge quantities of cookies, too. She has been known to bake 60-100 dozen cookies. She gives them as gifts to the people we don't exchange gifts with, and sends cookie platters to work with my dad. I bake a lot, too, but not nearly as much as she does!

And don't worry about dating yourself with Andy Williams and Bing Crosby, both of those men have special places in my CD collection, and I'm 25!

I wish I could smell what's going on in your house: the tree, the cookies. mmmmm
It's a great tip for us to bake more. I usually don't bake at all, but I have a new oven, so I can do that this year.
good luck with all the stuff you have to do.
